1) Introduction

My thanks to Thomas Henrich, John Fernandez, Rumen Angelov, Theo van der Storm, Haroonor Rashid, Elie Houlichian, Jerzy Ciruk, Bartlomiej Macieja, Stellan Brynell, Gaguik Oganessian, Mladen Zelic, Elli Sperdokli, Sami Hämäläinen, Jonathan Wilson, Jovan Petronic, Dominique Primel and everyone else who helped with the issue.

It was ten years ago that I first saw Morozevich play when he won the Lloyds Bank Masters with a tremendous 10/11 score. Although he's had his ups and downs since then he's still one of those players whose games you turn to first. This week he's been tearing up the opposition in the Russian Team Championships with 4 wins and two draws and a 2900 performance. With potentially two more rounds to go he could be on track to catch Leko as the World Number 4.

Hope you enjoy this issue.

Mark

This temporary exhibition is located in the third floor exhibition hall of the Main Building, 325 Superior Ave., N.E. The Library exhibition is free and open to the public. Worlds of Chess Champions puts chess into context through the lives of chess experts, authors, and champions. This exhibition sets the historical stage of chess champions from the 19th Century to the present. To illustrate the context of chess in the world, the earliest items displayed feature chess pieces from Egypt dating back to 1300 B.C. Other early items on display from the John G. White Chess and Checkers Collection include original manuscripts from the 16th, 17th, and 18th Centuries.
