My thanks to Olivier Breisacher, Lanfranco Bombelli, Herman Claudius van Riemsdijk, Luís Santos, Ruben Casafus, Alexis Harakis, John Henderson, Dimitris Skyrianoglou, Nigel Freeman, Hans Groffen, Lennarth Eriksson, Argiris Kotsis, Eirik Gullaksen, Gary Bekker, Laszlo Nagy, Jussi Tella and Tapani Sammalvuo and all those who helped with this issue.
Montecatini Terme and Biel tournaments saw triumphs for Vassily Ivanchuk and Peter Svidler, two of the most popular players. The British Chess Championships are being covered daily by TWIC and next week should see quite a bit of excitement.
Finally another landmark for TWIC, issue 300. Its a little hard to celebrate when you're struggling to get an issue finished late at night but TWIC is a source of great satisfaction to me. I would like to thank all those who have helped out with encouragement, news or corrections over the years and indeed to everybody who reads the magazine. Next week issue 301, its just one after another!
Hope you enjoy this issue

The Arnold J. Eikrem Memorial took place in Gausdal, Norway 30th July - 6th August 2000. The event was won by Sergei Tiviakov with 7.5/9. My thanks to Eirik Gullaksen.
Website: http://home.online.no/~eirikgu/am2000.htm
Arbiter and organizer Hans Olav Lahlum reports: "I always play well in Gausdal" said the top rated GM Sergei Tiviakov immediately making up for last week's result in Bergen with an outstanding performance in the Arnold J Eikrem Memorial. After playing on the top board for all nine rounds without losing any of them, Tiviakov finished with 7.5/9 1.5 points clear of the three next GMs. In between landed the fourth ranked IM Davit Lobzhanidze, who came just as close to a GM-norm as in Bergen: He again managed to defeat GM Yuri Yakovich from a difficult position in the eighth round, but proved unable to move the ultra-solid GM Alexander Volzhin in the ninth. Despite just 36 participants the organizer was satisfied with the foreign participation, but that only one of the top 100 Norwegians found time to play was of course a disappointment. Fortunately the Norwegian market seems much better for the next Gausdal-tournament, which will be the Troll Masters 5th-12th January 2001.
