No MTel 2010 in Sofia

In a Silvio Danailov interview with ChessDom he has confirmed there will be no MTel tournament in 2010. The sponsorship and organisation of the World Chess Championship match between Anand and Topalov in Sofia has taken time and resources away from organising the event. MTel decided that sponsorship of Topalov during the match was a far more effective use of their money. Danailov admits it will have some impact on the Grand Slam of which he is a founder but "Yes, it is not pleasant. But, regretfully, now there is nothing more to be done. There is a temporary crisis, the same in the rest of the world. Chess, after all, is not such an expensive sport and I hope that next year there will be no longer problems. "
