World Chess Champion Viswanathan Anand returned to World Number One over-taking Magnus Carlsen after a superior result in the Tata Steel Wijk aan Zee tournament. At 2817 Anand is two points ahead of Carlsen. Levon Aronian is in 3rd place with a rating of 2808. These tiny differences mean that any time these three play there can be changes in the ranking at the top. Vladimir Kramnik remains in fourth.

Vassily Ivanchuk returns to the top 5 in the world after his destruction of the Gilbraltar Masters field with a rating of 2779, Sergey Karjakin, Veselin Topalov, Hikaru Nakamura and Shakhriyar Mamedyarov are all rated between 2772 and 2776 so movement here is likely.

Surprisingly there is a slight fall, 2649 last time, to 2647 this, to actually be in the top 100.
