The penultimate weekend of the Schachbundesliga takes place Saturday and Sunday 19th-20th March 2011. Georgios Souleidis previews.

First class event in Muelheim

At 19th and 20th of March the 12th and 13th round of the Schachbundesliga will take place. Take a look at the pairings at the venues Muelheim, Delmenhorst, Muenchen and Emsdetten.

The top match of the weekend will take place in Muelheim. The host awaits the star ensemble from Baden-Baden. The German champion will compete with eight Top100 players. Obviously Baden-Baden doesn´t want to jeopardize the sixth straight championship. The matches in Muelheim will be held in a wonderful location. The Museum of Modern Art invites all chess fans to visit the matches and an exhibition devoted to our beloved game.

The second top match of the weekend will take place in Delmenhorst. Bremen faces on Sunday the strong team of Solingen. The strongest contender of Baden-Baden has to win in order to keep the chances alive to win the German championship.

In Munich there is a totally different situation. Three teams are playing against relegation so many nerve-wracking games can be awaited.

In Emsdetten most of the teams are in a safe position in the table. Only Berlin has to fight against relegation and under these circumstances it is the team to watch out this weekend.
