The President's Cup takes place in Baku, Azerbaijan 29th April - 2nd May 2010.
The main event was a single round robin rapid tournament (last year was a Scheveningen team event) with half the players from Azerbaijan and half from abroad.The time control was 25 minutes per player per game. Vladimir Kramnik took first place from Shakhriyar Mamedyarov and Gata Kamsky on tie-break after all finished on 5.7.
There was a blitz tournament on the final day, May 2nd 2010. Shahriyar Mamedyarov and Vladimir Kramnik finished on 10.5/13 – but this time a tie-break match was held which Mamedyarov won. Teimour Rajabov finished third with 9.5 points.
The President of Azerbaijan is Ilham Aliyev but the cup is named after his father Heydar Aliyev who was the leader of Soviet Azerbiajan and then President of the Independent State for a period of 30 years and died in 2003.
Players: Azerbaijan: Mamedyarov, Radjabov, Mamedov and Guseinov. Rest of the World: Kramnik, Kamsky, Polgar and Sutovsky.
