Wins for Kramnik, Meier and Caruana open Dortmund 2013

The first round of the Dortmund Chess tournament saw three decisive results. Kramnik won first with his game finishing with a shocking blunder, Fabiano Caruana and Georg Meier won in more conventional style.
Vladimir Kramnik emerged a pawn up against Wang Hao in a Queen, Rook and Pawn ending but the game ended instantly when Wang played Ra2 going behind the pawn which lost the rook to Qb8+ followed by Qb1+. Georg Meier managed extended pressure against Arkadij Naiditsch's Gruenfeld with 4.Qb3 and this eventually won him two pawns and the game. Fabiano Caruana's Gruenfeld faired better and he won the exchange with a dangerous attack and then the game.
Michael Adams was better as black against Daniel Fridman's Scotch Four Knights but it wasn't enough to win. Khenkin-Leko was the last game to finish but it was a fairly dull draw.
