Dortmund Sparkassen Chess Meeting 2013 (8)

Adams and Kramnik meet in final round for Dortmund title

Michael Adams drew against Georg Meier on the black side of a Catalan Defence to reach 6.5/8 with a round to go of the 41st Sparkassen Chess-Meeting. Vladimir Kramnik returned to winning ways by grinding down Elo favourite Fabiano Caruana in a Gruenfeld ending in 76 moves.

Adams has white against Kramnik in Round 9 and only needs a draw to win the tournament. A Kramnik would win would allow him to overtake Adams. These are the only two players with a plus score.

Peter Leko finally converted an advantage to a win in mutual time pressure against Arkadij Naiditsch. Igor Khenkin beat Wang Hao in a King's Indian, he got a big advantage out of the opening which he eventually converted. Daniel Fridman drew against Dmitry Andreikin in an 80 move game where there never seemed much to play for.

Round 8 Standings: Adams 6.5pts/8, Kramnik 6pts, Meier, Leko 4pts, Andreikin, Khenkin, Naiditsch 3.5pts, Fridman, Caruana, Wang Hao 3pts.

Round 9 Pairings 12am Sun 4th 2013: Andreikin-Leko, Naiditsch-Khenkin, Wang Hao-Meier, Adams-Kramnik, Caruana-Fridman.
