Elina Danielian took her winning streak to 5 with victory against Xu Yuhua in Round 5. Whilst she is far from home and dry she has extended her lead to a couple of points and put more pressure on Humpy Koneru. The winner of the Grand Prix as a whole will play a World Title Match against Hou Yifan later in the year, as Hou looks increasingly likely to win the Grand Prix 2nd place will do. Although Nana Dzagnidze lost her 3rd game in a row she already has a formidable Grand Prix total of 390 posted. This means only a tournament win for Koneru will allow her to take second and she drew her third game in a row. Pia Cramling after beating Dzagnidze moved joint second with Martha Fierro Baquero and Marie Sebag on 3/5.

Elina Danielian

Position after 24.Be1

Elina Danielian didn't get a lot out of the white side of the Queen's Gambit Rogozin Variation against Xu Yuhua. Xu was probably a bit too anxious to trade pieces off and she became awkwardly placed and although she proceded to defend reasonably well her position gradually started to deteriorate and she went down to a loss in 69 moves. This takes Danielian to a 5/5 score two points clear of the field.

After another defeat it isn't all bad news for Nana Dzagnidze it looks increasingly like her total of 390 Grand Prix points will be enough for second place in the over-all Grand Prix and a world title shot against World Champion Hou Yifan. Photo © http://qatar2011.fide.com/.

Pia Cramling

Position after 16.Nd6

Pia Cramling took advantage of some passive opening play by Nana Dzagnidze to score her first win of the event. The variation Dzagnidze played wasn't a main line and by move 16 Cramling already had some very comfortable play.

Antoaneta Stefanova

Position after 34.Rg5

Antoaneta Stefanova and Martha Fierro Baquero drew a King's Indian in 52 moves. In the position above 34...Kf8 would probably have left black with an advantage. Instead pieces were traded off for a draw.
