Liviu-Dieter Nisipeanu won the only game of the day beating Vassily Ivanchuk in a Ruy Lopez Berlin where he exposed Ivanchuk's king and forced him into a losing ending. Nisipeanu converted after surviving terrible time trouble. Magnus Carlsen got less than nothing against Teimour Radjabov and flirted with danger in trying to keep some complexity in the game before the draw was agreed. Nakamura too had no problems on the black side of a Najdorf against Sergey Karjakin.
