Hikaru Nakamura got something of a pull against Vassily Ivanchuk in a Nimzo Indian but the Ukrainian steered for a double rook ending that proved to be very drawish indeed. Sergey Karjakin had to exercise some care also after becoming worse on the white side of a Caro-Kann against Magnus Carlsen but he traded easily enough into a drawn ending in the end. Teimour Radjabov played his Schliemann Defence to the Ruy Lopez against Liviu-Dieter Nisipeanu. Nisipeanu played simply to avoid time pressure and the game was drawn in 31 moves.
