Ivanchuk leads Golden Classic, Giri beats Sokolov in Dutch Champs Round 1

Today saw the second round of the ACP Golden Classic and the first round of the Dutch Championship in the Science Park Chess Tournamet in Amsterdam. Le Quang Liem's position more or less fell apart when he missed a piece sacrifice just out of the opening against Vassily Ivanchuk and was left with a horrible position to try and defend. Krishnan Sasikiran recovered from his round one loss to beat Baadur Jobava taking advantage of his opponents mistakes on the run up to first time control. Gata Kamsky repeated (30...a3 looks good according to the computer) against Emil Sutovsky (in his first game of the event) when he looked to be getting a significant advantage. Anish Giri trapped Ivan Sokolov's queen in a Catalan where he got a great advantage from the opening in the only decisive game of the Dutch Championship. Peng Zaoqin and Tea Lanchava both won in the first round of the ladies event.
